In Her Own Words: Nancy Violanti Gregoire on Jericho Road’s Work in Nepal

A Journey of Discovery and Devotion: Nancy Gregoire’s Experience at Jericho Road’s Global Health Clinic in Nepal

When Nancy Gregoire boarded her flight to Nepal, she had no idea just how deeply the experience would shift her perspective. What began as a personal trip rooted in family connections quickly evolved into a powerful journey of insight into global healthcare, community resilience, and the mission of Jericho Road Community Health Center.

A Family Connection to a Global Mission

Nancy first learned about Jericho Road through her brother, Dr. Paul, a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), Nurse Practitioner (NP), and University Professor, who played an instrumental role in establishing the organization’s global health outreach alongside Dr. Myron Glick, founder and CEO of Jericho Road Community Health Center. Although familiar with the name, it wasn’t until she visited Nepal that she fully grasped the scale and impact of Jericho Road’s work. “I supported Jericho Road from afar,” Nancy explained, “but I never truly understood what they were doing on the ground until I saw it with my own eyes.”

For Nancy, seeing her brother’s quiet dedication translated into tangible healthcare access for underserved communities was both humbling and inspiring. His passion ignited her own desire to witness the mission in action.

Inspired to Witness the Impact Firsthand

The opportunity to visit Nepal came at a meaningful time in Nancy’s life. With her children grown and her schedule more flexible, she decided to combine a visit to her son in India with a trip to Nepal to accompany Dr. Paul. Her expectations were modest—she hoped simply to observe—but what she found far exceeded her imagination.

“I didn’t know what to expect,” she said. “But the moment I arrived, I was struck by the contrast between the busy world I came from and the simplicity and purity of life in Hagam.”

A Clinic in the Mountains, A Community of Hope

Located in a remote mountain village, Jericho Road’s Global Health Clinic in Hagam stood as a beacon of care. Nancy was immediately impressed by the clinic’s structure, efficiency, and warmth. The staff—many of them local youth trained through Jericho Road’s initiatives—were committed, compassionate, and deeply embedded in the community. Patients were treated with dignity and kindness, and the atmosphere reflected joy and purpose.

She also noted the difference in healthcare practices: “There’s a strong reliance on natural medicine, which resonated with my own holistic lifestyle. People are healthier, not because of modern medicine, but because of their diet, environment, and connection to the land.”

Moments of Meaning and Deep Connection

Throughout her visit, Nancy formed meaningful bonds, particularly with a young woman named Dinah. Now a medical student, Dinah is the daughter of a clinic leader and was inspired to pursue medicine after witnessing Jericho Road’s presence in Hagam. Nancy now supports her education. “She’s my Nepalian daughter,” she said proudly.

Another lasting impression came from Dinah’s mother, Tara—a community pillar who gardens, cooks, teaches, and even engineered a ventilation system in her home. Tara also heads up the Priscilla Project in Nepal, mentoring pregnant women and standing by their side through their journey. “She’s the kind of woman I aspire to be. Humble, resourceful, and endlessly generous.”

From late-night card games to communal meals and heartfelt conversations, Nancy experienced firsthand the depth of community spirit and resilience in Hagam.

A New Lens on Global Health

Nancy’s time in Nepal was more than a visit; it was an education. She saw how Jericho Road’s presence in such a remote village brought healthcare to people who might otherwise go without. The road to the clinic alone—winding, steep, and treacherous—highlighted just how isolated the region is.

“Without Jericho Road, I honestly don’t know how these people would receive care,” she reflected. “This work is saving lives—not just in Hagam, but in other global sites as well.”

She was especially impressed by how quickly the clinic grew. Between her two visits within one year, the site had acquired an ambulance and expanded its services, further proving the commitment and momentum behind the mission.

A Changed Perspective and a Renewed Commitment

This journey left Nancy with a renewed sense of purpose. “I see healthcare differently now,” she shared. “Everyone deserves to be seen, to be treated with dignity, and to have access to care. Jericho Road makes that happen.”

When asked if she would consider visiting another global site, Nancy didn’t hesitate. “Absolutely. I’d go to every one of them if I could. I want to see the change, and I want to be part of it in whatever way I can.”

Her words are a powerful reminder of the importance of bearing witness—and of giving back. As Nancy saw firsthand, the needs in Hagam and across Jericho Road’s global sites are immense.
