As conflict intensifies on the streets of Goma, the need for urgent support at our clinic has never been greater. Established in 2015, Jericho Road Community Health Center’s Wellness Clinic in Goma began as a small health center to care for the most vulnerable in one of the most dangerous and unstable regions in the world. Since then, this clinic has evolved into one of the largest hospitals in Goma, providing life-saving care to over 3,000 patients a month, performing basic surgeries, and delivering between 150 and 200 babies every month.
The city of Goma, nestled in the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s North Kivu province, is home to a population of 2 million. Despite its breathtaking landscapes, including the active Mount Nyiragongo volcano and Lake Kivu, Goma is also a region plagued by violence, poverty, and environmental dangers. The ongoing conflict in the region, fueled by rebel groups like the M23 and exacerbated by global demand for minerals, has led to the loss of over 10 million lives and displaced millions more.
Currently, Goma is on the brink of disaster, with rebel forces advancing toward the city. The fighting is intensifying just five kilometers from the Wellness Clinic, which remains operational despite the perilous situation. Our team in Goma is continuing to provide care in the face of shelling, internal displacement, and dwindling resources. In addition to treating the wounded, they are working around the clock to feed staff and their families, as food supplies are being cut off. The situation is dire, and we are desperately in need of vital supplies—medications, sutures, gloves, IV fluids, antibiotics, and financial support to sustain the hospital’s operations.
The world seems largely oblivious to this ongoing crisis. Despite the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding, Goma’s struggle is receiving little media coverage, and support remains minimal. Yet, there is hope.
Jericho Road Community Health Center is reaching out for help. We are calling on our global community to stand in solidarity with the people of Goma during this critical time. Here’s how you can make a difference:
- Pray for the safety of Goma’s hospital staff, their families, and the city’s residents during this time of conflict and fear.
- Donate to Jericho Road’s efforts in Goma. Your financial contributions will go directly toward providing the medical supplies and sustenance needed for the hospital to continue its life-saving work.
- Raise awareness by sharing the story of Goma’s struggle with your network. The more people who understand the gravity of the situation, the greater the chances of meaningful intervention and support.
Goma’s residents, many of whom are refugees from decades of conflict, are caught between rebel forces, environmental hazards, and a collapsing healthcare system. They need our help, and they need it now. Jericho Road Community Health Center is committed to serving the most vulnerable during this crisis, but we cannot do it alone.
We urge you to partner with us in ensuring that the vital work in Goma continues. Your support can make a life-saving difference.
